- Non-Resident Library Card
A nonresident may apply for a Card and pay an annual fee if he/she is:
- Not a resident or property owner in the Library District
- Resides in an area of Indiana that is not served by another Public Library.
One Card is issued per family. Additional non-resident cards may be purchased for a nominal fee. State statute requires the Library to set the nonresident card fee once each year. The fee is based on the per resident (current census) expenditures during the previous fiscal year.
- PLAC - Public Library Access Card
PLAC cards may be purchased at the Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library or at the non-resident's home public library. PLAC cards are issued after a home library card is obtained. At the time of purchase, you will need to present your home library card. The fee for PLAC is set once a year by the Indiana State Library. Card holders may check books out from any Public Library in the State for a 12-month period using the PLAC.
Note: If you live in an area without library service, you will need to purchase a non-resident card from a public library before you may purchase a PLAC.
Zionsville Community School Classroom Teacher's Library Card
This card enables the following individuals to check out library materials for classroom use:
- Zionsville Community School Corporation classroom teachers.
- Teachers, student teachers and paid workers in the classroom not classified as a teacher, who reside outside the Library District, but work in local public and private schools.
- Teachers in day care centers located inside the Library District.
Teachers who also reside in the Library District may apply for both a teacher's card and a personal Library card.
Teachers may send family members, aides, volunteers, other teachers, etc. to check out materials using the Teacher's Card.
Teachers and/or assignees may request extended check out periods for materials at the time of checkout. Overdue fees are not waived for these card holders.
Remember to advise the Library staff at the time of checkout that you need an extended loan period.
The extended loan period option includes:
- Videos/DVDs: 14 days [usually 7 days]
- Books: up to 6 weeks [usually 3 weeks]
Extensions may be obtained by calling the Circulation desk, 317-873-8340.
When the ZCS teacher applies for this special card, other card users may be designated. Be prepared to show identification showing your current residence address.
This card will expire 1 year from the issue date or be deleted from the file if the cardholder no longer works in the classroom in the Library District. The card may be renewed if the teacher or classroom assistant is still employed in the position during the subsequent school year.
Lost or Stolen Library Cards
If your card is lost or stolen, call the Circulation Department at 317-873-8340. Until this loss is reported to the Library staff, the registered card holder is responsible for fines and lost materials.
Confidentiality
According to Library Board policy, all records relating to Library patrons, and their use of library materials and services, are confidential. Library staff members may not disclose information about a customer to a third party. Under Indiana law, minors are accorded the same confidentiality rights as adults.
Does the Library have a connection to the Internet?
What is the Internet?
The Internet provides electronic access to information from millions of sources throughout the world. The Internet includes academic institutions, libraries, schools, companies, government agencies, nonprofit organizations and individuals.
What does an Internet connection provide Library customers?
The best way to illustrate the informational value of this connection would be to envision sitting at the Internet workstation at your Library in Zionsville, and connecting to the information resources available at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. The information found on this search would be the same available if someone was actually using the Library of Congress in-house computer workstation. The Internet allows the Library and library users to have access to a wider variety of reference materials than any individual operating budget would provide in-house.
How do I find out more information about the Internet?
The Library presently offers a variety of books and videos, as well as magazine and newspaper articles, with extensive information about the Internet which may be checked out by Library card holders. Ask a Librarian for assistance in locating these resources.
Who may use the Internet workstations at the Library?
The Internet workstations are available to everyone. While filtering software is being used on all Internet stations at the Public Library, parents need to assess their children’s Internet's usage. Parents may want to review the entire Library Board policy and background information about the Internet. No Internet "police" or "librarians" or "headquarters" exist on the Internet and no software-based filter is 100% effective.

Place your Amazon.com orders through the Library’s website and a percentage of your order goes to our Friends of the Library to help fund programs and services at the Library! It’s easy, but you need to follow these steps:
- 1. Click on the white, black and yellow box with the Amazon link to the left.
- 2. Look at the top of the Amazon.com page. If it says (Not “your name”?) up there, CLICK that! You need to begin your order as an anonymous user. Click the back arrow button until you get all the way back to the Library’s website.
- 3. If it doesn’t have your name there, you are free to begin building your cart and placing your order.
- 4. If you encountered the (Not “your name”?), after you’ve clicked on it and gone back to the Library’s website, click the Amazon.com link to the left AGAIN.
- 5. Look at the top of the Amazon.com page. You should not see your name at the top.
- 6. Begin your search for items to purchase and place them in your shopping cart, shopping as usual.
- 7. At the time you are ready to check out, you will be prompted to log in as a user with your email address and password. Do this and proceed as usual with your payment.
- 8. A portion of your purchase price, up to 15% on some items, will be sent to our Friends of the Library and it costs you nothing extra!
- 9. You will probably have to go through this process every time you shop, clicking the “Not you” at the top of the Amazon.com page and then going back to the Library’s website to start over. It clears out the cookies that identify you as you from the beginning.
- 10. It’s easy and is a great way to earn funds for our Friends of the Library to use to provide programs, services and amenities for our Library! THANK YOU!
Friends of the Library
The Friends help make the Library a Friendly Destination in Zionsville.
When celebrating the Library as a fun and learning destination in Zionsville, we hope you will turn your thoughts to the Library Friends. This group has been a key player in the Library's winning formula.
Fundraising for the Library
Since the mid-seventies the Library Friends have been earning money selling pre-owned books and donating the proceeds to the Library. The Library Friends solicit, collect, organize, and price thousands of books for public sales three times a year. The net proceeds are set aside to benefit the Library.
Significant contributions to the present building
After several years of saving book sale proceeds, the Friends in 1993 donated $7000 to purchase the chandelier that hangs in the main lobby. The beautiful light fixtures in the main lobby and on the second floor were made possible by the generosity of the Friends. In addition, a display cabinet was purchased that shows off the Lora Hussey doll collection.
Shop with the Friends & Amazon.com
By searching or clicking on the link to the right, all of your Amazon.com purchases will benefit the Friends of the Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library. Amazon.com will donate up to 15% of your total purchases to the Friends. Thank you for shopping with the Friends to help your Library!
More than 25 years of gifts
- Since 1978, the Library Friends have donated about $120,000 to purchase basics and extras that have served to collectively make this Library a special destination for all ages.
- Equipment such as photocopiers, dehumidifier, calculator, electric typewriter, telephone, refrigerator, faxes, tape players, and a scanner were items that contributed to Library staff productivity.
- Basic furniture needs such as tables, chairs, shelving, card catalog cabinets, display units, and area rugs were also supplied.
- Books, magazine subscriptions, and other collection materials have been added annually. The flowers at the Library entrances have been purchased and planted by the Friends.
- Many of the Christmas decorations that adorn the Library were gifts from our generous Friends. The group pays for Library program speakers and concerts, supplies and refreshments.
- Many greater Zionsville area residents, past and present, have benefited from the diligence and funds donated by this caring group.
Membership
Annual dues for an individual are $10 per year. New members are welcome. Print the membership application(PDF), complete and return it to the library.
