Books to Go!
"Books to Go" is a service provided to Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library card-holders who are physically unable to visit the library.

Visual Aids

The Library has equipment and reading materials to assist the visually challenged to obtain information.
Online Catalog
Our Online Catalog lists records for Large Print books, Audio Tape books and Books on CD, both fiction and non-fiction, that are available for check out.
To find these books:
  • For Large print, in the Catalog, type Large type books in the subject field.
  • For Audiobooks, type Audiobooks in the subject field. Your results will include both books on tape and CD.
If you click on Advanced Search from the main search screen, you can also limit any search to print items or audiobooks.
Enter any desired subjects, titles or authors in the Search Input boxes. On the right side of the Advanced Search screen you will see a list of Search Filters:
  • For Large Print, click on Large Print in the Item Form box.
  • For Audiobooks, click on Audiobook in the Item Type box.
Then, click Submit Search.
You can also select both and your search results will include both audiobooks and large print items.
Note that Item Form also allows you to limit for Braille items, but there is no Braille collection available at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library at this time.
Mono Mouse Text Magnifier
The Library has 3 MonoMouse Text Magnifiers available for loan. These devices work by plugging into a television. You simply scroll over text you wish to see, which is then magnified and displayed on your existing television. If you would like to try a MonoMouse, please call the Teen/Adult Services Department at 317-873-8341 or ask any librarian in the Library.
VersiColor Reading Tool
The VersiColor XL CCD Reading Tool can be used by all ages who are visually challenged for reading all kinds of documents, such as books, newspapers, magazines, letters, reports, contracts and even coins, stamps, medicine bottle labels and photographs. The machine will allow you to read your own work as you are writing it.
The VersiColor XL incorporates the latest technology in CCTV (Closed circuit television) video magnification systems.
For more information about this machine contact the Teen/Adult Services Department on the 2nd floor of the Library or call 317-873-8341.
The Kurzweil Computer
The Kurzweil Computer, located on the second floor, converts the printed word into speech and magnifies both text and graphics.
