Books to Go!
"Books to Go" is a service provided to Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library card-holders who are physically unable to visit the library.
Who can receive this service?
- Individuals whose mobility is limited because of age or physical infirmity
- Individuals suffering an extended illness or chronic physical impairment that restricts their ability to visit the library
- Individuals who are temporarily bedridden for two months or longer, due to serious injury, illness, or other medical condition
Who is not eligible?
- Persons living in residential care facilities already served by the Library
- Library customers who are capable of visiting the Library unassisted
- Persons living outside the Library district
How does the service work?
- Every customer who qualifies receives a get-acquainted visit from a library staff member to review reading preferences and to identify any special needs the customer may have, for example, large print books to books on tape. The homebound customer also completes a written questionnaire on favorite books, authors, and areas of interest that is kept on file at the library.
- Materials are selected based on customer preferences and requests. Items are delivered about once a month.
How do I sign up?
- First, contact the Adult and Teen Service Department at the Hussey-Mayfield memorial public Library to ascertain whether this service is right for you.
- If it is, they will schedule an in-home visit at your convenience so that you can identify what books you like to read. (If you do not have a library card, they will help you fill out an application at this time.)
What restrictions apply?
- Book or other library materials with less than a 21-day circulation period may not be checked out through "Books to Go."
- Standard fines will be charged on overdue library materials. (If there are no holds pending, materials may be renewed online using the online card catalog or by calling 317-873-8340.)
- No more than four items may be checked out at one time under "Books to Go".
