Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library
The Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library has a service area / Library district population of approximately 16,000 residents [2000 census]. The Library district serves the residents of two townships, Eagle and Union, and the town of Zionsville, which is the same area as the Zionsville Community Schools district.
The Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library operating fund is funded through a combination of COIT (County Option Income Tax), local property and excise taxes. Library programming is funded solely through generous support from the Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library Foundation and the Friends of the Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library, both 501 (c) (3) non-profit organizations. Grants and additional fundraising comprise the remainder of funds used to provide services to the residents of the Zionsville Public Library district.
The Library purchases between 6,000 – 8,000 new items annually. The collection, through continuous maintenance, numbers approximately 130,000 items. The building, at capacity will hold approximately 200,000 items.
The Library currently offers a variety of materials for youth, teens and adults that are housed in the Zionsville Public Library’s facility. These include fiction and nonfiction books, magazines, newspapers, VHS movies, DVDs, books on tape and CD, music CDs and AV Kits. A number of online databases are also available. The Library is a member of the Evergreen Indiana Library Consortium and provides access to thousands of library materials owned by other member public libraries across Indiana, which may be borrowed by HMMPL card holders. The Library has both public use computer labs and public wireless connections to the Internet. We offer public meeting rooms, services for home school families, youth and adult programming, elderly and shut in outreach services as well as a variety of school connection services.
