Volunteer Opportunities
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Hussey-Mayfield Memorial
Public Library. We have a number of opportunities available for volunteers from
ages 14, or younger with adult supervision, through adult. The first step to
volunteer with HMMPL is to fill out the Volunteer Application. Applications are
available at the Circulation and Reference Desks on both the first and second
floors or by printing the pdf form. Thank you for your time and interest as we
continue to provide the best library possible for our community and customers.

Department: Friends of the Library
Position Summary: Help the Friends of the Library with the set up and take down of the books for the Friends Book Sale. Anyone helping with the set up will be able to purchase books from the sale on Friday afternoon before the general public opening.
Time Involved: Friday morning Feb. 2 from 9:30 to 11:00 or Monday morning Feb. 5th from 9:30 to 11:00
Qualifications: Adults able to lift a carton of books weighing approximately 10 lbs and push a loaded book cart.

Supervisor: Teen & Adult Services Manager
Position Summary: Calling customers to notify of available holds.
Time Involvement: One hour per week minimum. Select the same day each week, Monday through Saturday.
Length of Commitment: 6 weeks or longer
Qualifications: Should enjoy talking on the phone and appreciate working with details. Must be able to work independently after instruction.

Position Summary: Miscellaneous filing and other related duties.
Time Involvement: One hour per week minimum. Select the same day each week, Monday through Saturday.
Length of Commitment: 6 weeks or longer
Qualifications: Knowledge of alphabetical order. Ability to pay attention to details. Must be able to work independently after instruction.

Supervisor: Teen & Adult Services Managers
Position Summary: Prepare forms to be placed in packet by copying, cutting, and folding.
Time Involvement: One hour per week minimum. Select the same day each week, Monday through Saturday.
Length of Commitment: 6 weeks or longer
Qualifications: Ability to use paper cutter, to pay attention to details while assembling items for packet. Must be able to work independently after instruction.

Length of Commitment: 6 weeks or longer
Time Involvement: Flexible, one hour per week, minimum; Monday - Friday
Position Summary: Maintains order, accessibility, and appearance of assigned section of shelving.
Major Responsibilities: Read spine labels and move books or media that are not in proper order. Shift books as necessary to assure easy access. Remove all bookmarks, paper and litter from books and shelves.
Qualifications: Adults with knowledge of alpha/numeric order. Ability to reach to top shelves and bend to bottom shelves. Must follow direction well. Ability to concentrate and pay attention to details. Ability to lift books and push book carts; bending required. Must be able to work independently after instruction.

Supervisor: Youth Services Managers
Length of Commitment: One time or monthly
Time Involvement: 1 - 2 hours per month
Position Summary: Maintains order, accessibility, and appearance of Youth Services Materials/Supplies Catalogs.
Major Responsibilities: Maintain order and usefulness of catalogs used to order materials and supplies for the Youth Services Department. Remove duplicate or out-of-date catalogs. Re-shelve current catalogs as they are used.
Qualifications: Students, Families, and/or Adults Must be 16 years of age or older to work independently. Parent must supervise students who are 11-15 years old. Knowledge of alphabet order. Must follow direction well. Ability to concentrate and pay attention to details and make decisions within parameters provided. Must be able to work independently after being instructed.

Length of Commitment: Six months (minimum) or Summer
Time Involvement: Flexible, two hours per week minimum
Position Summary: Maintains order, accessibility, and appearance of assigned section of shelving.

Major Responsibilities: Wash and dry a cart of soiled books.
Qualifications: Must be 14 years of age or older to work independently. Parent must supervise students who are 9-13 years old. Willingness to volunteer.

Length of Commitment: One time or Weekly
Time Involvement: 2 hours per week, or Flexible
Position Summary: Cut, glue, sort, photocopy, etc. a variety of materials needed for Story Time in Youth Services.
Major Responsibilities: Working with the Youth Services Librarians and doing various tasks on a quarterly basis. Fall, Winter, Spring, or Summer.
Qualifications: 18 year olds and up. Willingness to volunteer.

Time Involved: 2 hours per session, Flexible
Position Summary: Shifting books to a new location
Major Responsibilities: Moving books to a new location on the shelves and maintaining the order of books.
Qualifications: Must be 14 years of age or older to work independently. 16 year olds and up. Willingness to volunteer. Knowledge of alpha/numeric order. Ability to reach to top shelves and bend to bottom shelves. Must follow direction well. Ability to concentrate and pay attention to details. Ability to lift books and push book carts, bending required.
