Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees of the Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library are volunteers who bring business, professional and management expertise to the oversight of the Library. Regular meetings of the Library Board are held on the third Thursday of the month at 7:30 PM in the Hussey Room. All board meetings are open to the public except those that are called "executive sessions". Official minutes of these meetings are available for review in the Library during regular business hours. Copies of the meeting minutes are placed on this website after being approved by the Board.
The seven Board members are appointed by the following local elected officials:
- Boone County Commissioners appoints one member
- Boone County Council appoints one member
- Zionsville Community School Corporation appoints three members
- Zionsville Town Council appoints one member
- Zionsville Town Council President appoints one member
Appointees serve a term of four years with a maximum service of four terms. Members serve without pay.
Authority of the Library Board as outlined in Indiana Code 36-12 includes the following:
- Shall govern and set policy
- May make rules
- Manage and insure all property belonging to the Library
- May establish a sufficient number of libraries, branches or stations that are conveniently located to serve the residents of the Library district within the resources available
- May acquire, as well as sell or otherwise dispose of, real or personal property
- Shall determine the rate of taxation for the library district that is necessary for the proper operation of the Library
